Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst was born on June 7, 1965 in Bristol, England. He was one of the most original, beautiful, abstract English painters and sculptors, and at the same time he was one of the young British art movements that became famous in the early 1990s. He was also an artist who was interested in the fundamental human dilemma. One of his works was about beauty, death, rebirth, and medicine, technology and death. He had a shocking effect using a processed object and questioned the nature of art in the process.

One of his most famous and shocking works is "In and Out of Love," known as the use of living animals. When he did this, more than 9,000 butterflies died and more than 400 butterflies per week died to maintain it during the exhibition. The work was made by attaching a pupa to a white canvas, feeding a fruit bowl, and mating. It said that what it meant was love and realism, dreams, ideals, symbols, and methods. However, some viewers were disappointed that the butterflies were not in their natural habitat. But he said that the living environment created at the museum was perfect, and many butterflies enjoyed longer lives due to the quality of the environment and food supply. What he wanted to show through this work was also the destructive power of life, the nature of love and desire that society is reluctant to face death.
