Daniel ARSHAM

Daniel Arsham born in Miami in 1980, he began to be interested in photography and architecture during his high school time. He traveled across the continental United States to East Coast New York to study, and in 2002 graduated from Cooper Union in the Upper East Side of New York. As we can see, his early works are all white, that`s because he had color weakness, it is a condition the ability of the human eye to distinguish color has obstacles. However, he always thinks that color weakness is not an art stumbling block, so he starts to using his extraordinary aesthetic revolves around his fictional archaeological concept.


He mainly used sculpture, architecture and painting to create and interpret the ambiguous space or situation, and further what he refers to as the present future relic. His artworks mainly made by sand, selenite or volcanic ash and other geological materials, that caused his artworks were excavated after being buried for many years. He also like to challenge people`s understanding of solid inertia of architecture, as we can see his had many artworks made by some building materials, but they looks just like a soft cloth.

Over all, the main concept of Daniel Arsham`s artworks is to shows the iconic things of different times by using distress technique, just like the future archaeology.
