Gustav Klimt was born on July 14th, 1862. Gustav's paintings revolutionized the artistic community. His paintings were masterworks at symbolism, often depicting very strong human emotions with beautiful characters. At first glance, it is easy just to dismiss his artwork as rude, but when one sees the emotions on the characters, as well as the stylistic features, the deeper meaning behind them is revealed.

"The Kiss" is Gustav's most popular artwork. This is a painting done by him, and is the last Golden Age painting he finished. These paintings included gold shapes and textures on either their background or characters. This painting has two separate golden robes, one for the man and the other for the woman. Many of Gustav's paintings show lewd and erotic behavior, and looking at this painting it is obvious that it is no different. However the true value is the meaning. When you look at the robes, you are able to see the different patterns for the two. Not only this but the robes seem to be merging, symbolizing the connecting bonds these two lovers have for each other.
