Nam june paik (1932-2006) is a Korean American artist who is also known as the Father of video art . He was the first artist to invent a new artist medium with TV and video . He used to construct an early video-synthesizer and this experience allowed him to combin e and manipulate images that are from different sources . In his first exhibition in 1963 , he placed 13 television , three pianos and a silencer , and performed a performance that one of the pianos was destroyed by Joseph Boyce (a German artist) . From this exhibition , he started his pioneering work at video art by performing works that combine music , performance and video . His artworks are exhibited in Nam June Paik Art Center .
Electronic superhighway , one of his most well-known artworks , is a large installation (15x10x5ft) . It is made up of 336 TV , 50 DVD players , 575 feet of multicolored neon tubing and 3750 feet of cable . He named this installation “electronic superhighway” to express his vision of our future . He thought that in the future technology would make boundaries to disappear . Also , American highway system that connects the country inspired him to build this electronic superhighway . This video clips moves very quickly and imitates the way we look the country in a moving car . Through this video art , he is expressing our time successfully .
